Welcome to Champions of the Lists

This started out as a weekend game jam. After finishing the core of the game I have moved on to adding the other stuff I have had in mind for the game. Updates will be coming out over time. 

Scoring

Scoring in Champions is done after each charge. For hits against the body you will receive 1 point (called flags in the game).   Hits against the helmet will grant you 2 flags. Finally if you knock your opponent from the mount you receive 3 flags and also the victory. 

Generally if you tie it would result in a draw. If you dismount your opponent you get the victory. If you both knock each other from the saddle it will result in a draw.


How to Play

You have 3 stances you make selections from, Target area, shield stance, and seating stance. Target Area is the portions of the body you are aiming. You pick from head, left / right shoulders, and head. Each of these will affect the total Attack strength. 

Shield Stance is how you are holding your shield. 

High provides the most protection but also affects your ability to aim. 

Mid provides less protection but has less impact on aiming. 

Low provides the least protection and allows for the best aiming.

Seating Stance is how you are sitting in your saddle. 

Aggressive provides you a lot of bonuses to your Attack but it also puts you at risk and has a negative to your defense. 

Defensive Stance is what I have called turtling. You are trying to lock yourself as much in to your saddle as possible. This can be important for various situations in a tournament where just not being dismounted could mean ultimate victory or a higher overall ranking. 

Neutral is just that, your pretty average seating in the saddle. It provides a little bonus to both Attack and Defense.

You attack score is a combination of your strength and aim skill along with the bonuses and negatives from the Stances you take.

Defense calculates your defense and momentum with the Stance negatives and bonuses they provide.

There are plans to add further things into the game such as tournament brackets, a tournament circuit, as well as buffs and debuffs for during the challenges. You will also be able to improve your stats over time. Well these are all ideas I have. We will see if we move that forward.

The game idea is great. The gameplay is very well implemented and, even at this early stage of the project, it's very polished. Special mention goes to the soundscape and the general atmosphere of the game.

Played around 20 minutes. Lost 3 times, 1 draw and 1 win.

The game looks amazing (Pixelart is great), playing wise I felt a bit lost but once I figured out the modifiers i was able to score a win.

Great game for its current state already.

There is nuances to the game that aren’t yet fully apparent. So I understand that it can definitely take some time to figure out the different components. More robust tutorials and documentation is coming.
